| About the Stirling Canoe Club... | ||||||||||||||||
|
History:
The club was formed in 1990 by a small group of paddlers from the Stirling area. They enjoyed the sport and were interested in improving their own skills and introducing others to their love of canoeing. Interests: Members are interested in most aspects of the sport including: white water kayaking, sea touring, surfing, open Canadian canoeing (both touring and white water), flat-water touring, marathon racing, and canoe polo. The emphasis at present is on river running, sheltered flat water, pool training evenings and (not very serious) competition canoe polo. The club does its best to encourage youngsters to develop and train up new potential coaches. Equipment: The club currently owns a fairly large selection of kayaks, canoes, paddles, buoyancy aids, spray decks and helmets. These are available for hire free of charge by club members on all club-organized trips, flat water & rivers up to grade three severity. Equipment is also available to members out-with club organized trips at the discretion of the committee. In these circumstances a small hire charge is in place and the hirer will ensure that the kayaks are not used on water above grade three (normal levels) and will be responsible for damage/replacement cost of kayak. Tuition: The club has several instructors at various levels on the B.C.U. coaching scheme. We run training programs both indoors and outdoors, leading to B.C.U. awards. Instructors in accordance with S.C.A./B.C.U. guidelines always supervise organized trips. Facilities: We currently have the use of Bannockburn High School swimming pool on Wednesday evenings during term time. Non-members are welcome to come along for one pool session and meet some of the members before committing themselves to joining. As an interested prospective member you may attend one try-out pool session before paying your subscription. For details of sessions and booking contact Drew or Christine Milroy 01324 554 666. Activities: We endeavour to
organize a varied program of outings and events, details of which can
be found in our current newsletter. Usually this comprises 1-2 trips a
month on a Saturday alternating flat water and river (grade 1-2) trips.
Hope you decide to join us. |
